Newspaper articles!

There have been a couple news paper articles that have been written in tribute to my brother! They are both neat articles and I would like to share them on here.
The first one was written by Chris Brunt (a childhood friend of Brian's)- it was published in the Post Register!

"Stop and Smell the Roses" Published Idaho Falls Post Register April 3, 2013. By Rev.Christopher Joseph Brunt.

"After taking some much needed time away from social media recently, I made a reluctant return to the electronic ether of the internet. Upon my return, I discovered something very startling. As I clicked away at my message notices on my profile page, I kept seeing strange hints at the absence of a name that belonged to an old friend. Digging and digging into past posts and mentioned statuses, I was slammed back into the moment and lurched into the bright Maglight of now by realizing that this friend of mine had in fact passed away. A former confidant and multiple-time partner in youthful “crime” had quickly left this world in a snap of mother natures blurry fingers. He left behind a spouse and several children. I had just had lunch with him a few months ago. We talked of spending time in warm locales and meeting his family and friends in the new place he called home. He gave me some very important tips on staying motivated and buoyed my confidence up by validating my running for office at the time. And now, here I was, lost in a moment of confounded silence. All voices, plans and desires were placed on pause. Nothing mattered in the future, plans momentarily suspended and the only thing important was that moment I was currently in. All alone with the realization that the world had just gotten a little stranger and less friendly because a dear friend was no longer around to enjoy or commune with. Now as I sit here and type this short article I have to urge those reading this to maybe try something right now. Stop! Just stop worrying about the pathways and challenges of tomorrow. Stop, for just this second, putting emphasis on what your arch nemeses alternate color political party is planning on forcing on the nation or what the end game of your work schedule should be. Sit here right now, as you are reading this and clear your mind. Now, think of one person you are thankful for in your life. Stop and think of just one individual in your world who makes life worth living and brings a smile to your face. As i truly miss my friend from New Mexico who meant so much more to me than he will probably ever know, I urge everyone who reads this to not let a minute go buy today without thinking on someone. Think right now on a person in your life who defines who you are; someone you know that makes living worthwhile. As we plan for the future whether it be a day or a decade away, don’t let an opportunity to stop and smell the roses while being grateful for the roses having been there to smell when you so desperately needed them pass you by."

The second article was written by Sandy Fields in Portales, New Mexico:

"When a Young Man Dies"

"When an old man dies the community comes together to pay their respects. Family and friends gather. People who never knew the man, but know his grandchildren. People who work where the man used to work. Great-grandchildren who saw him on holidays when they came to town, and know him through the three or four favorite stories passed down through the generations. Many of his peers have already passed on. Others live still, but are too frail to attend the memorial.

Photos are shown from a black and white, by-gone era… as if from a dream world. Music is soothing. Tears are healing. The final chapter complete, the bittersweet sigh of sadness and relief. When an old man dies.

When a young man dies his family and friends come together to make it through the moment. People who knew him well. People who shared a meal with him only days ago. People who were laughing and making memories only hours before his passing.

The photos aren’t dreamy… they’re from our life. Our faces. Our clothing. Our celebrations. The stories are fresh. Emotions are choking. His life is shared through vivid and recent stories. Lives are forever changed. When a young man dies."

Tender Mercy...

Back to March 21, the day we got the worst news EVER!!!!!

Rachel text me that morning saying the dr had stripped her membranes. Throughout the day she started to have contractions. (I think the news of Brian made her progress quicker) by evening her contractions were hard and consistent and they were off to the hospital. By 2:00ish AM Tanner Wayne Watson entered the world.

What an emotional roller coaster our family went through in just a little over 12 hours. Tanner is a sweet glimpse of heaven that we saw and was comforted. I know and possibly speak for most my family that little Tanner was a comfort in the time of tragedy in our family.

Congratulations Seth and Rachel Watson!!!!

Memories...

Shaleena created a Facebook group to post memories/pictures of Brian, and there has been many great stories. My brother was such a good man, funny man, crazy man, and so much more... and I still cant believe this is real... Here are a few of my favorite posts, I can post some later:

I remember watching Narnia and Brian paused the movie at the part where the witch gives Edmond the Turkish delight and Brian pulled out some Turkish delight and gave us all some. -Aubrey

Brian had such a servants heart. On the anniversary off Zach's death he took the kids to the hospital to give baby items to the children born that day. There was only one born and it was a poor family. Brian truly blessed them that day! -Shaleena

When Fred and I think of Brian, we always think of his special little grin - like someone who just got their hand caught in the cookie jar. -Connie

I have always hated to wake up to loud voices, or people yelling my name, etc. Probably a bad thing to hate when you belong to the Luckau family...anyway, when I was about 17 I was taking a nap. It was time for dinner and the family was trying to decide who wanted to wake up the monster. Well Brian came up and I woke up to him opening a can of lemonade and him giggling. He told me something to the effect that people like waking up to the sound of a can opening. Needless to say, I woke up in a pretty good mood! -Lindsey

One of my favorite memories with Brian was playing "Qwelf" at the Zangara's. While there were a TON of funny things he did that night (randomly yelling crazy things, sitting UNDER the table for half the game, etc.), the one that sticks out the most is when he drew a card that required him to run out of the house shouting "A STORM IS COMING!!!!!!" at the top of his lungs. He was so convincing that about 6 kids jumped up, wide-eyed and ran out of the house following him! -Nicole N' David

When we would get in trouble, we had to touch noses, I remember him smelling like pickles. He loved to eat pickles, well I was teasing him about this and he said I smelled like dog poop! (Which he later told me that the aqua fresh toothpaste smells like dog poop!) -Angie

I have been thinking of what to post here. I am Brian's big sister. We were 15 months apart in age, so we had our share of sibling rivalry! I guess I dropped bottles on his head when he was a baby, at least that is what my mom tells me. So I thought I was always mean to him, but I was happy to read in my grandma's journal that I was also sweet to him! Well when we were 1 and 2 we climbed on a dresser and it fell over on us and the plant broke on Brian's head cutting it open, he had a scar on the side of his head where this happened:( well he always said I totally planned it and did this to him. Sooo... When he shaved his head (still wonder why since he knew he had a scar) but told Katelynn that her Aunt Angie did that to him. Luckily Katelynn wasn't afraid of me after that:) I think she knows her dad and I better than that! He would always grin and laugh while trying to make me feel guilty for the scar! I will miss him teasing me! Love you Brian! -Angie

One night when I was closing as a cook and Brian was closing as a driver at Pizza Hut, he went on a delivery to the Pepper Tree. He walked in the door with his shirt off and bills shoved in his pants and his pockets. $120 in tips for dancing for the comedian on stage. He showed me some of his awesome moves! I couldn't stop laughing that night. And when he called Shaleena Bruderer Luckau to tell her she just told him he should do that more often. -Sonya

I was married about a year and Brian was wandering around the house. He then came up to me asking where our pans are and if we had a frying-pan. I told him where they were. He got one out and very calmly walked outside and threw my pan off the deck as hard as he could!!! It hit a pole and broke the handle off and really dented the pan. He laughed really hard and said "that was TOTALLY AWESOME!!" I asked why on earth he would do such a thing?!? He replied that he just had an overwhelming desire to throw a frying pan! We then went out and buried it. -Shaleena

I remember dad saying I stood up for you today. Someone said you like to eat crap sandwiches but I said that's impossible he doesn't like bread -Daniel

Sometimes Brian would break out his guitar and go from room to room singing songs to the kids to tuck them in. He was always very loud with it and always left them more energized! -Shaleena

While doing Routine Check Up in Cottage 4, R Brian Luckau would sneak around waiting for just the right moment. There it was, I'm down on my hands and knees looking under the bed and He jumps out and yells, then just chuckles and walks away. -Janice

One of my earliest memories of Brian was shortly after Shaleena and Brian got married, Katelynn and Daniel weren't born yet. He was always telling jokes and making me laugh constantly, and we could just be silly at all times. I remember walking between where Shaleena and Brian were sitting on the couch and a coffee table, and both of them lifted their legs up to trip me and I fell over one leg into the other. Haha I think it was that day that he picked me up by my ankles and dipped my head into the snow outside... I'm going to miss him. Haha and I think that he's the only person I've seen who could beat Super Mario Bros from beginning to end without warping to a later world. -Jason

Brian's smile was always so comforting when I was younger and didn't always get to visit with my dear cousins as much as I would have liked to. I remember walking into grandma Brights feeling a bit overwhelmed and I would look first for Brian....He would smile that 'smirky' smile and all was good! I will miss Brian, I can see his smile in his children, and for that, I am so glad.- Kristina

Luckau's had come to Utah, and had come over to see us. We were visiting in our living room, and heard kids giggling. My son came out of the bathroom and said, "ew, gross--Brian just drank water out of the toilet!!" He came out of the bathroom with a huge smile on his face! - Renee

March 21, 2013

It was a Thursday morning, I had the feeling I was coming down with a cold- I felt blah! I cancelled who I was supposed to babysit that day. Miss Mary got on the school bus. I laid down to take a nap. At 12:26 I got the phone I never ever thought I would get. A phone call I never ever wanted to hear. It was my dear sister-in-law Shaleena. She told me "I have some bad news. Brian was in a car accident and he has passed." WHAT???? What????? My brother is dead? My brother is no longer here??? What? This really can NOT be happening. My heart LITERALLY broke in half and I will never be the same! Will and I then went to the school where my Dad teaches and we had to tell my Dad, that his son was no longer with us- this was terrible! We then spent the rest the day with my mom and dad. I can't believe the outpouring love we have felt from friends and family. There has been so many praying on our behalf, bringing food, sending cards, texting, making phone calls.... I can not thank you enough for the support and kind words and many prayers.
This is one of the hardest posts I have ever had to write!

I keep hoping I will wake up from this nightmare....

And I haven't. There is a hole in all our hearts and he will be missed greatly!

Love you and miss you so much! Until we meet again my dear brother!

{A little Empey Reunion}

On march 15, aunt B was in town and so many if us went out to pizza at Leo's Place and then went to a hotel and swam!
